Discussion on Self-Reliant Arunachal Pradesh

The announced budget allocation to the textile and handicrafts sector is a much-needed step that supports the idea of "Vocal for Local". The allocation of 2 crore towards the acquisition and marketing of local products is a commendable endeavour to support the craftspeople, self-help groups (SHGs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and entrepreneurs who tirelessly work to create one-of-a-kind products and improve the local economy.
Furthermore, the decision to allocate 15 crore for Arunachal Pradesh tourism is a positive step that will encourage adventure and eco-tourism in the area in addition to growing the tourism industry. The focus on establishing a sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism strategy is closely aligned with the importance of supporting regional goods and crafts.
In addition, the decision to submit applications for geographical indicator (G.I.) tags for ten regional goods—Khamti Rice, Yak Churpi, Apatani Textiles, Tangsa Textile, Adi Kekir (Ginger), Monpa Handmade Paper, Wancho Woodcraft, Nyishi Handloom Textiles, and Hand-Woven Carpets—marks a critical advancement in the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of regional businesses. If an application is approved, the GI certification will shield native items from being counterfeited and misrepresented by dishonest vendors who frequently exploit their special qualities. Wancho Woodcraft, Adi Kekir, and Hand-Woven Carpet are well on their way to publication in the GI certifications, and it is encouraging to observe that Khamti Rice, Yak Churpi, and Tangsa Textile have already achieved GI certifications with success.
Acknowledging the importance of regional goods and craftsmen to the country's economy and culture is crucial. In light of the recent GI certifications obtained by the above-mentioned commodities, we invite citizens to share their view on how can Arunachal Pradesh benefit from it? Furthermore, what additional measures can be taken by the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh towards ensuring more indigenous commodities get protected under GI certifications?
