Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu recently laid the foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence for Kiwi Fruit at Kardo, Lower Subansiri District an initiative designed to transform the state’s kiwi sector.
,
Equipped with modern facilities such as protected cultivation, a hi-tech nursery, mother and demo blocks, R&D initiatives, post-harvest and value-addition infrastructure, training modules, and essential utilities, the Centre will act as a catalyst for growth.
Beyond boosting production, this initiative promises to empower farmers with knowledge, create livelihoods, and open fresh market opportunities for Arunachal’s produce. The state is poised to emerge as India’s kiwi capital by focusing on value addition and advanced practices.

A kiwi plant typically produces fruit between 3 and 5 years after planting, with the commercial production starting later, around 7 to 8 years. Growing kiwi from seed can take longer, sometimes 4 to 7 years for the first flowers and requires at least one male and one female plant for pollination and fruit development.
