Although it is not a new habit among the people of Arunachal Pradesh to plant and nurture flowers in their houses, the concept of pursuing it as a primary occupation is relatively new. In recent times, many families in the region have taken up floriculture (cultivation of flowering plants) as a means to earn income.
Floriculture carries a great potential in providing entrepreneurial career option for the local populace, especially the womenfolk of the state. The success story of Jasmine SHG Federation, Bordumsa, Changlang is an apt example supporting the vision. The members of the federation started floriculture with the fund they got from NERCORMP. It did not take long for their entrepreneurial venture to bloom, and they soon became the buzz of the nation. Many SHGs as well as individuals are benefitting by practicing floriculture in the state. With its successful implementation, floriculture can help in alleviating the status of rural establishment of Arunachal Pradesh greatly.
Through this discussion, we invite our citizens to share their thoughts on the role of floriculture in benefitting the future prospects of rural establishments in Arunachal Pradesh. Also, what other lesser-known occupation can be taken up to support the aspiring individuals and SHGs from the rural communities of the state?
