Each year, two top sports personalities for each sport at grassroots level are identified by the High-Powered Committee and are provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events.

The Khelo India Programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

This year, the KIYG 2020 was held at Guwahati, Assam, from 9th-22nd January, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. Maharashtra won the KIYG 2020 with 78 Gold, 77 Silver and 101 Bronze medals — a total of 256 medals overall.

This was a proud achievement for us and showed us the potential of our state on what we can achieve. We as citizens, should support our young and upcoming players to achieve at the highest level and also support the Khelo India initiative to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse in the upcoming years.
