Substance abuse has been a persistent issue in Arunachal Pradesh, severely affecting the potential of the state, especially the youths. However, GoAP is actively taking measures to combat addiction and create a positive change for the youth.

To heighten awareness and educate the public on the dangers of drug use, the state government established the ‘Arunachal Against Substance’ campaign. The initiative aims to assist the families of addicts and offer them support while encouraging drug users to seek help from rehab facilities. The program will provide a safe and healthy environment for individuals to turn their life around and enable them to begin with a clean slate. It offers vital resources such as helplines, online counselling, and testimonials from people who have overcome addiction.

There are also NGOs and non-governmental organizations working tirelessly to promote awareness around drug abuse throughout the whole state. The Indian Army has played a significant role in this cause by organizing youth-targeted awareness campaigns and engaging them in various sports activities. Women initiatives such as WASE are increasing awareness and advocating against drug abuse among young people, with the entire female population of Arunachal Pradesh supporting the idea of a drug-free state.

Through their determination and persistence, the state is moving in the right direction towards a drug-free future. We invite citizens to share their thoughts on the impact created through these ongoing campaigns at ground level. What other measures should be taken by GoAP to eradicate substance abuse from its roots?

Remind yourself of the reasons you want to change.
Think about your past attempts at recovery, if any. What worked? What didn't?
Set specific, measurable goals, such as a start date or limits on your drug use.
Remove reminders of your addiction from your home, workplace, and other places you frequent.
Tell friends and family that you're committing to recovery, and ask for their support.

Developing an addiction to drugs isn’t a character flaw or a sign of weakness, and it takes more than willpower to overcome the problem. Abusing illegal or certain prescription drugs can create changes in the brain, causing powerful cravings and a compulsion to use that makes sobriety seem like an impossible goal. But recovery is never out of reach, no matter how hopeless your situation seems or how many times you’ve tried and failed before. With the right treatment and support, change is always

Parents should always stay in touch with their kids. A strict vigil on the activities of the children will surely help in moulding the mind of the children towards the right path. The NGOs that are working for eradication of the drug menace must be suitably facilitated by the state government and the society.

In addition to the existing provisions of the law to deal with drug trafficking, the state government may also frame additional severe clauses like life imprisonment even if caught for the first time, cancellation of all facilities provided to a citizen, direct termination from job, etc.

# More severe punishment provisions must be introduced in the law to deal with drug peddlers. If any government servant is found involved in drug peddling, direct termination provision from the job should be there, so that a fear psychosis is created among the people before thinking of drug peddling.

# Schools and colleges should be more vigilant and protect their students from the danger of drugs.
# Drug victims must be counselled properly and sent to de-addiction centres, followed by follow-up actions such as engaging them in some fruitful works for their livelihood.
