Substance abuse has been a persistent issue in Arunachal Pradesh, severely affecting the potential of the state, especially the youths. However, GoAP is actively taking measures to combat addiction and create a positive change for the youth.
To heighten awareness and educate the public on the dangers of drug use, the state government established the ‘Arunachal Against Substance’ campaign. The initiative aims to assist the families of addicts and offer them support while encouraging drug users to seek help from rehab facilities. The program will provide a safe and healthy environment for individuals to turn their life around and enable them to begin with a clean slate. It offers vital resources such as helplines, online counselling, and testimonials from people who have overcome addiction.
There are also NGOs and non-governmental organizations working tirelessly to promote awareness around drug abuse throughout the whole state. The Indian Army has played a significant role in this cause by organizing youth-targeted awareness campaigns and engaging them in various sports activities. Women initiatives such as WASE are increasing awareness and advocating against drug abuse among young people, with the entire female population of Arunachal Pradesh supporting the idea of a drug-free state.
Through their determination and persistence, the state is moving in the right direction towards a drug-free future. We invite citizens to share their thoughts on the impact created through these ongoing campaigns at ground level. What other measures should be taken by GoAP to eradicate substance abuse from its roots?

Drug menace is a big problem and it feeds on the future prospects of the nation. If someone gets addicted once, the person eventually hits rock bottom and it then becomes very hard to pull back up again in revival. According to studies, young people are much more vulnerable to drug abuse because of many reasons like peer group pressure, the thrill of experimenting with new things, etc.

Prevention
The best way to prevent an addiction to an illegal drug is not to take the drug at all. Use care when taking an addictive prescription drug. Your doctor may prescribe narcotics to relieve pain / anxiety / insomnia / nervousness. Doctors prescribe such medications at safe doses and monitor their use so that you're not given too great a dose or for too long a time.

1- Avoid high-risk situations. Don't go back to the neighborhood where you used to get your drugs. And stay away from your old drug crowd.
2- Get help immediately if you use the drug again. If you start using the drug again, talk to your doctor, your mental health provider or someone else who can help you right away.
3- Stick with your treatment plan. It may seem like you've recovered and you don't need to keep taking steps to stay drug-free. But don't stop seeing your psychotherapist.

Counseling:
1.Individual or family counseling with a psychologist, psychiatrist or addiction counselor may help you resist the temptation to resume using addicting drugs.
2.Behavior therapies can help you develop ways to cope with your drug cravings, suggest strategies to avoid drugs and prevent relapse, and offer suggestions on how to deal with a relapse if it occurs.
3.Counseling can also involve talking about your job, legal problems, and relationships with family and friends.
