Arunachal Pradesh is setting new benchmarks in agricultural innovation and economic sustainability. Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu recently laid the foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence for Kiwi Fruit at Kardo, Lower Subansiri District an initiative designed to transform the state’s kiwi sector.

Equipped with modern facilities such as protected cultivation, a hi-tech nursery, mother and demo blocks, R&D initiatives, post-harvest and value-addition infrastructure, training modules, and essential utilities, the Centre will act as a catalyst for growth.

Beyond boosting production, this initiative promises to empower farmers with knowledge, create livelihoods, and open fresh market opportunities for Arunachal’s produce. The state is poised to emerge as India’s kiwi capital by focusing on value addition and advanced practices.

Kiwi fruit originates from East Asia. They love sunshine and grow best in climates that are consistently warm. In more temperate climates we can still enjoy good results by growing them against a sunny wall where they can romp away to reach/ get this – 10m (30ft) tall.

typically one male for every nine female plants.
(b) Pruning:- Prune our kiwi vines annually to manage growth and encourage fruit
production.
(c) Fertilizing:- Fertilize once a year with a balanced organic fertilizer containing
nitrogen and phosphorus to promote flowering.

(a) Sunlight & Soil:- Choose a sunny location with fertile,well-drained soil amended with
compost.
(b)Support: Kiwis are vines, so provide a strong support structure like a T-bar system,
wall or trellis for them to climb.
(c) Watering:- Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogged conditions,
especially during dry spells.
(d) Protection:- Kiwis are sensitive to strong winds, so plant them in a sheltered spot.
