The Fit India Movement is an initiative taken by the Government of India that was launched on 29th August 2019 on the occasion of National Sports Day by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. The motive of the mass movement is to create awareness among the people about the importance of physical activities and to encourage them to bring about behavioural changes and embrace a more physically active lifestyle.

Being physically active not only helps us to maintain our physical wellness or to maintain weight but helps in the development of overall mental and physical health. It is evident that being physically active have positive long-term and is associated with better health. Every individual should be encouraged to take at least one form of physical activity on daily basis such as playing sports, doing regular exercise or practising yoga if not more than 30 to 60 minutes.

It is a matter of great concern that many people in the country are exposed to diseases like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases(CVD) and many more due to the sedentary lifestyle they/we live with. The rising prevalence of these diseases can be attributed to the rising problem of physical inactivity. Physical activity in youths and especially among children has drastically reduced and has now occupied by virtual and mobile gaming devices. The study shows that a large percentage of people in India are inactive with fewer than 10% engaging in physical activity. With the growing impact of virtual, and mobile gaming and other leisure coming from internet sources, people spend excessive time on digital screens. These are not the only factors that have shrank people’s participation in physical activity but there are unnecessary excuses that people make to avoid it. While everyone should induce the good habit of doing exercises, children must be meticulously motivated to devote themselves to field sports and physical activity (of course maintaining Covid protocol). It is vital in ensuring young people have the best possible start in life and develop a lifelong love of community sport and being physically active.

To highlight the relevant issues, and challenges and to promote among its citizen the importance of fitness, the Government of India has started a mass movement under the banner of “Fit India Movement”. The initiative aims at providing a unique and exciting opportunity for everyone towards a healthier nation. Fit India undertakes various initiatives and conducts events to achieve the following objectives:

  • To promote fitness as easy, fun and free
  • To spread awareness on fitness and various physical activities that promote fitness through focused campaigns
  • To encourage indigenous sports
  • To make fitness reach every school, college/university, panchayat/village, etc.
  • To create a platform for citizens of India to share information, drive awareness and encourage sharing of personal fitness stories.

    फिट इंडिया मूवमेंट हमारे माननीय प्रधान मंत्री मोदी जी द्वारा शुरू किया गया बहुत ही बढ़िया initiative है। हम सबको मोदी जी के द्वारा इस अभियान को शुरू करते समय दिये गए भाषण को गोर से सुनना चाहिए इसमे उन्होने बताया है कि क्यो देश के लोगो को फिट इंडिया मूवमेंट से जुड़ना जरूरी है प्रधान मंत्री का वो भाषण के कुछ अंश मुझे बहुत प्रभावित करते है आप को भी ये यहा पर - सुनना चाहिए
