The Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), formerly known as ‘Khelo India School Games’ (KISG) is an annual national level multidisciplinary grass-root games held mainly for two categories — under-17 and under-21 students. The first edition of Khelo India School Games (now KIYG) was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 31st January, 2018 at Indira Gandhi Arena, New Dehli.

Each year, two top sports personalities for each sport at grassroots level are identified by the High-Powered Committee and are provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events.

The Khelo India Programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

This year, the KIYG 2020 was held at Guwahati, Assam, from 9th-22nd January, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. Maharashtra won the KIYG 2020 with 78 Gold, 77 Silver and 101 Bronze medals — a total of 256 medals overall.

Arunachal Pradesh managed to bag 12 medals — 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze, and stood 23rd in the overall medal tally. This was a proud achievement for us and showed us the potential of our state on what we can achieve. We as citizens, should support our young and upcoming players to achieve at the highest level and also support the Khelo India initiative to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse in the upcoming years.

The Khelo India youth games(KIYG) is an important initiative taken by Government to promote the youth . It’s effect can be seen in India almost in every state. Most of the youths are less interested in study they want to build up their career in sports so for those students KIYG works as the gift of God.

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), formerly Khelo India School Games (KISG), meaning Play India Youth Games, held annually in January or February, are the national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India held for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students. Every year best 1000 kids will be given an annual scholarship of ₹5 lakh (US$7,000) for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events

2 nominations by the federation, 1 from the host State and one from the organising committee will be selected. For archery, badminton and shooting, the top 16 from the National School Games, 8 nominations by the federation, 1 from CBSE, 1 from host State, 1 from organising committee, and 6 from wild cards will be selected.[2]

Selection criteria
Only selected school kids below the age of 17 years are eligible to compete. In the individual sports, top 8 sportsperson from the School Games Federation of India's National School Games, 4 nominations from federation, one from Central Board of Secondary Education, one from the host State and 2 wild card entries for the individual events will be selected. In team sports, the top 4 from the National School Games
