The Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), formerly known as ‘Khelo India School Games’ (KISG) is an annual national level multidisciplinary grass-root games held mainly for two categories — under-17 and under-21 students. The first edition of Khelo India School Games (now KIYG) was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 31st January, 2018 at Indira Gandhi Arena, New Dehli.

Each year, two top sports personalities for each sport at grassroots level are identified by the High-Powered Committee and are provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events.

The Khelo India Programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

This year, the KIYG 2020 was held at Guwahati, Assam, from 9th-22nd January, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. Maharashtra won the KIYG 2020 with 78 Gold, 77 Silver and 101 Bronze medals — a total of 256 medals overall.

Arunachal Pradesh managed to bag 12 medals — 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze, and stood 23rd in the overall medal tally. This was a proud achievement for us and showed us the potential of our state on what we can achieve. We as citizens, should support our young and upcoming players to achieve at the highest level and also support the Khelo India initiative to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse in the upcoming years.

MyGov Arunachal invites citizens to express and share their views/opinions on how we can encourage and support our young players of the state and the KIYG programme to make India one of the best in the world of sports.

Games are for players and players are for the country. So this is a very good decision from the My gov, as because there are players who never show off but proves it. INDIA in games had proved in good rankings.

There is a huge pool of budding young talent that can be tapped by providing support like training, equipment, sporting gears and facilities with professional coaches at grass-root levels itself. Tournaments at school and college levels be held regularly and teams formed from a combination of pools be given opportunity in turns to ensure everybody gets a chance. Tournaments at local, national and international levels shall be conducted providing opportunities from a larger pool of talent.
