Importance of bringing the Agriculture sector into focus

Arunachal Pradesh being an Agrarian State has almost 94 percent of the state's rural population dependent on agriculture as the main occupation to earn their living. The State is abundantly gifted with enormous natural resources and suitable agro-climatic zones and therefore agriculture continues to be central to all strategies for planned socio-economic development of the state. Jhum cultivation, which means collective farming and it acquires central position in the agricultural sector, is the major occupation in the state's agricultural sector. Some major crops of the state are paddy, millet, wheat, pulses, potatoes, sugarcane, oilseeds, and maize. Agriculture in Arunachal Pradesh also comprise of spices, fruits, aromatic and medical plants, flowers, and mushroom.

The agricultural department of Arunachal Pradesh has been working upon implementing a number of agricultural policies with an objective to increase the economic growth of the state and assuring more employment for the uneducated class of the rural areas through agricultural activities. We also need to take a leaf out of practices from countries like China and US to enhance the sector.

MyGov Arunachal Pradesh seeks suggestions from citizens on ways to bring the agriculture sector in to focus by ways of implementing new technologies or bringing forth any success stories that will inspire.

During the last two years, Kharif season has witnessed good growth. In March 2017, almost 64.5 million hectares of agricultural land were sown, out of which over 19 million hectares land was insured during Rabi season. More than 16.4 million farmers were benefitted by the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna and government is still increasing its reach by adding more and more farmers.
