One can recall the dreaded experience of the massive earthquake that occurred last year in 2021 in Assam. Originating at Tezpur, the earthquake measured 6.4 in the Richter scale and tremors were experienced across Assam, along with other north east states, and even across North Bengal. A year prior to it, on July 2020, massive rainfall triggered a series of landslides in Arunachal Pradesh which in turn resulted in the loss of 8 lives in the unprecedented incident. The north eastern states including Arunachal Pradesh are listed under the high risk zone of possible earthquakes in India. How can one possibly tackle these unfortunate events?

The GoAP has been extending constant support to educate people about the essential steps to be taken in such times. Several mock drills imparting awareness on the same with the participation of young students and armed soldiers on duty are being organised time to time. However, there is always scope to improve and expand the horizon of disaster management in the state.

Through this topic, we urge the citizens to share their opinions on the various measures and activities that should be taken up by both authorities and public that will help in better preparedness for any unforeseen disasters.
