,
Equipped with modern facilities such as protected cultivation, a hi-tech nursery, mother and demo blocks, R&D initiatives, post-harvest and value-addition infrastructure, training modules, and essential utilities, the Centre will act as a catalyst for growth.
Beyond boosting production, this initiative promises to empower farmers with knowledge, create livelihoods, and open fresh market opportunities for Arunachal’s produce. The state is poised to emerge as India’s kiwi capital by focusing on value addition and advanced practices.

How much water does a kiwi fruit plant need?
Since kiwis have rather large leaves, they lose a lot of water through transpiration when exposed to sunlight. Weekly watering is therefore usually essential, especially in summer. When it is not raining, water our kiwi plants about three times a week with at least 10 litres per adult plant.

If our location does not receive extended periods of direct sunlight, consider supplemental lighting options.

A kiwi plant typically produces fruit between 3 and 5 years after planting, with the commercial production starting later, around 7 to 8 years. Growing kiwi from seed can take longer, sometimes 4 to 7 years for the first flowers and requires at least one male and one female plant for pollination and fruit development.

How to grow kiwi fruit?
To grow kiwi, propagate from seeds after cold-stratifying them in the refrigerator for two months or take softwood cuttings in summer and root them in water. Plant seedlings in rich, well-drained soil with plenty of compost in a sunny spot. Kiwis are vigorous, wind-sensitive climbing vines that need a strong support structure and annual pruning. Be sure to have both male and female plants for fruit production, unless we have a self-fertile variety.

Where is the best place to plant kiwi fruit?
Kiwi vines need a sunny spot to produce the best growth and fruit. Plant in a protected area of the garden to avoid wind damage. Plant the vines on the north side of the yard in colder regions to minimize the risk of freeze-thaw damage in early spring, when plants are especially susceptible.
